By researching the chosen genre (domestic comedy) to get more knowledge and understanding it has given me ideas on how I can adapt my storyline to make it more interesting for potential audiences. I have looked into things such as:
- Setting
- Story Lines
- Characters
- Examples of domestic comedies
Looking at the topics from the list above I was able to see patterns and differences in various films to see if there were any features which had a habit of working well. I could also see parts which I didn't like as then I could not include these features to make my film better.
As the film won't be long as it is a short film I have learnt typical settings in which domestic comedies are set. By seeing this I could use one of the typical settings in my film as then it could be easily recognised without having to go into too much detail. I also wanted the setting to show off the characters as then I won't have to spend too much of the film trying to develop the characters. By doing this I want to keep as few characters in the film as possible as then the audience will find it easier to relate to characters. Setting also play a key part in the film if you're wanting to make it seem realistic as I want the characters to be related and attached to their setting.
The characters tend to be families or have emotional connections which make it easy for a domestic to occur. I have seen characters already created when I have looked at examples of domestic comedies. This gave me ideas to how I can develop the characters in my plot.
